Over time, after thousands of consultations in the field of Dental Medicine, I have noticed some recurring patterns in patients who come to my clinic for orthodontic and dental treatments.
I remember it as if it were yesterday, when a patient named António, then 16 years old, came into my office accompanied by his mother. He was a very shy boy, with a closed smile, a withdrawn posture, and he hardly looked me in the eye. As we pay close attention to our patients, we noticed his anxious breathing at several points, blushing, and difficulty expressing his concerns. We quickly realized that António was very shy.
It’s no surprise, but it’s worth reminding that shyness is an emotion that affects how people feel and behave around others. It may mean that the person feels uncomfortable, embarrassed, nervous, or insecure, and sometimes shyness can cause people to blush, become speechless, or even tremble in social situations. They may keep their distance from others, stay quiet, not greet new arrivals, mumble instead of speaking up, avoid eye contact, prefer to sit alone, or avoid group situations.
The mother said her son had a beautiful smile and saw no need for braces, but they came to the consultation because her son had found online an invisible aligner that could correct his teeth imperceptibly.
Indeed, after some exams, we found that António had a dental problem - Bimaxillary Crowding - 'crooked and overlapping teeth,' as he made sure to point out.
Could fixing his smile help alleviate António’s shyness?
There’s a saying I always remember and witness with each treatment: 'A beautiful smile can open doors, whether in personal, social, or professional life.'
And this saying couldn’t be more true. After all, smiling helps make a good first impression, win over people, and create new opportunities.
I presented the #Invisalign treatment to António, and his only question was: Can you help me get a perfect smile? Of course, I can, and it only depends on you and me!! I can help you find what you’ve been searching for.
Nowadays, it’s becoming easier and quicker to achieve a harmonious smile. Treatments are becoming more specialized, less time-consuming, and more effective.
António’s dental results are shown in the before-and-after photos in this post, but the beauty of this story lies in the New António. A handsome 18-year-old who now comes to consultations with his girlfriend and has just started studying Architecture at university.
A confident smile that transformed yet another teenager's life!
